What phone are you using? What version of operating system, app, and firmware?

You should not have to connect through the bluetooth menu of your phone. The device can only be discover-able once after it has turned on, so it's possible that your operating system is discovering and connecting which preempts the app from find the device. You should tell the OS to forget the device if that's possible. You could also try to plug in the board when the app is in discovery mode.

Droid mini, Android 4.4.4. app version 1.5. I've tried the 1.3, 1.4, and 1.5 firmware all with the same effect.

I didn't think I should be connecting to the device through the OS, but it's proof that the device should be discoverable. Since I haven't successfully connected that way, there's nothing to forget.

I tried your suggestion of plugging in while in discovery mode. I get no change.

Back in December we discovered that the Android bluetooth stack required location service permissions in order to use bluetooth device. It is possible that you may have disallowed this permission in the app and so the bluetooth scanning would not work. You might consider uninstalling and reinstalling the app and then granting this permission or otherwise granting permission through your system settings.

As another measure, the Rigado Toolbox app from our BTLE module vendor should be able to discover our device as well:

    play.google.com/…/.rigado.rigadotoolbox&hl=en

The rigado toolbox finds it. Flybrix does not.

To make sure we're on the same page, in order to grant local Bluetooth permissions, all I have to do is click accept when the install prompts that the app wants network access and Bluetooth access, right? Or is there more to it that I'm missing?
